The State Fair Roadrunners snapped a two-game losing streak with a 105-78 victory over the Technical Career Institute from New York City in the second round of the Moberly Classic on Nov. 28. The Roadrunners used a balanced offensive attack to secure the win.
The SFCC team found themselves trailing after the first five minutes of the game, but battled back to take a 15-point halftime lead at 45-30.
"I thought our defense was good. We got some early run outs and created some turnovers. We had some guys knock down shots," said Head Coach Dale Ribble.
Sophomore guard Clifton Fleming led six Roadrunners in double figures with 26 points. Filip Toric, freshman guard, contributed a career-high 19 points, and sophomore forward Justyn Watkins scored 14 points. Freshman guard Jay Lee, sophomore guard Dominic Williams and freshman forward Matthew Webb added 11 points apiece.
“I thought our guys, for the most part, did a good job of sharing the basketball. It wasn't always easy to run what we wanted to run because TCI played up-tempo . . . We were able to get a lot of things in transition," said Ribble.
The Roadrunners return home Dec. 1 to battle the William Jewell junior varsity. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
