W 91-52 |
By David Rohrbach
The Roadrunners closed out their portion of the SFCC Classic on Nov. 21 with a convincing 91-53 victory over the Westminster College JV from Fulton, Mo. State Fair (6-1) held Westminster scoreless for just over five minutes while jumping out to 12-3 lead.
"I thought we played well defensively in the first half. We talked about that today . . . We wanted to be patient defensively because we thought that they might run the clock. We wanted to make them shoot contested shots, while we blocked out and held them to one shot," said Head Coach Dale Ribble.
State Fair had eight players score seven points or more in the game. Freshman Jay Lee led the team in scoring with 11 points, and freshman center Matthew Webb contributed 10.
Ribble saw improvement from the team on both ends of the floor.
"I thought defensively we did some things tonight that show me we are making some improvements. I thought offensively our execution was better with some of the plays we ran. Some of the improvement is because the guys are getting to play more together and learning how to play," said Ribble.
The Roadrunners will travel to North Arkansas College on Nov. 23 for the next game. On Nov. 27-28, they will participate in a Thanksgiving Classic at Moberly Area Community College.
"We'll play Southeastern Illinois on Friday and TCI out of New York on Saturday . . . We will get a better idea of who we are and where we are by the end of that weekend," said Ribble.
