W 91-68 |
By David Rohrbach
The SFCC Roadrunners shook off a slow start to defeat St Louis Community College Forest Park 91-68 in their first game of the SFCC Classic on Nov. 20. State Fair (5-1) led at halftime 50-31, thanks in part to freshman Dominique Newton. Newton scored 13 of his team-leading 22 points in the first half.
"Newton gave us a big spark offensively, off the bench in the first half . . . I thought George Williams had a very good game tonight. I thought Tim Kiewel gave us some good minutes offensively. Dominic Williams did a good job too . . . we had some guys make some plays," said Head Coach Dale Ribble.
“We ended up playing some smaller guys at times and lineups without a big guy in there and just try to match what they were doing," said Ribble.
Sophomore George Williams contributed 15 points. Sophomore Dominic Williams added 12. Sophomore Tim Kiewel chipped in with 11.
State Fair will take on Westminster College JV from Fulton Nov. 21. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
"Westminster doesn't play nearly as fast. We will probably see some zone . . . it will be a different style, and we'll have to be ready for that," said Ribble.
