Opponent: McDonald's Classic (SFCC vs. MO Valley)
W 80-40 |
The State Fair Community College Roadrunners got off to another solid start on Saturday, Nov. 8 in the second round of the McDonald’s Classic against the Missouri Valley JV. The Roadrunners (2-0) led 15-9 with 11 and a half minutes to go in the first half. Freshman Jay Lee knocked down three three-point shots to get the offense going. SFCC stretched the margin to 48-14 by halftime. In the second half, State Fair continued to pour it on to post an 80 to 40 victory.
Head Coach Dale Ribble was pleased with his team’s solid start
"I thought the first half we got after them pretty well defensively . . . I think they only had six field goals in the first half. That says a lot about how well you play defensively. The other thing we did well in the first half is we kept them off the free-throw line."
The Roadrunners were able to play 14 different players in the game.
“It’s nice to have a lead and be able to play guys," said Ribble.
Lee led four Roadrunners in double figures with 16 points. Sophomore Justyn Watkins contributed 14 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Clifton Fleming added 13 points, and sophomore Dominic Williams had a solid all-around game. He added 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
The Roadrunners will travel to Iola, Kansas for the Allen County Classic Nov. 13 and 14 to play Fort Scott in the first round and then the host Allen County in the second round.
Even with a good start, Coach Ribble still sees room for improvement.
"We have got to take better care of the basketball. You always have to work defensively and you always have to work on rebounding."
