Opponent: McDonald's Classic (SFCC vs. Brown Mackie)
W 98-64 |
The State Fair Community College Roadrunners opened their season with a bang on Friday, Nov. 6, in the McDonald's Classic by soundly defeating Brown Mackie College 98-64.
State Fair (1-0) went on a 15-4 run to open the game. Sophomore George Williams hit a pair of three-pointers to key the run. The Roadrunners kept pouring it on and took a 45-23 halftime lead on the way to posting their first win of the season.
"I thought we defended really well for the first 15 minutes of the (first) half. I thought we rebounded the ball very well. They didn't make a three in the first half, some of that was due to us playing good defense," said Head Coach Dale Ribble.
Sophomore Justyn Watkins led five Roadrunners in double figures with 19 points. He also grabbed a team-leading nine rebounds. Freshman Jay Lee contributed 14 points. Sophomores Clifton Fleming and George Williams added 13 points apiece. Sophomore Brandon Scaife chipped in with 11. Sophomore Dominic Williams dished out a team-leading seven assists.
"I thought we did some good things tonight. It was the first game. There were a lot of different things that happened. It was a good way to start," said Ribble.
State Fair will take on the Missouri Valley JV on Saturday, Nov. 7.
