Opponent: UCM Jamboree
Location: Warrensburg, MO
The State Fair Community College Roadrunners took the floor for their second set of preseason scrimmages on Oct. 18 at the University of Central Missouri Jamboree. SFCC went 2-1 at the event, with victories over John A. Logan College and McCook Community College. SFCC dropped a heartbreaking, sudden-death overtime decision to Southwestern Illinois College.
"I thought our energy, effort, and intensity were very good at times . . . I thought we played against three very good basketball teams that were well coached," said Head Coach Dale Ribble.
Ribble saw signs of improvement between the Johnson County scrimmages and the UCM scrimmages. However, he believes that it is still early.
"I think these scrimmages are good for everyone involved because we get to see . . . quality opponents and figure out what we need to work on," said Ribble.
Ribble took advantage of several “teachable moments” during of the scrimmages, and the intense battle against the Southwestern Illinois provided an opportunity to practice closing strategies.
"I think it was good because there were a lot of end of the game situations for us. The scrimmage is a great way for the guys to learn," said Ribble.
SFCC will travel to Springfield October 24 to take on College of the Ozarks, Evangel University and Central Bible College as part of the Fall Basketball Jamboree.
"I think that will be really good for our players to play against some good teams with some older guys that really know how to play," said Ribble.
