Opponent: Region 16 Quarterfinal - Crowder
W 95-77 |
The No. 2 seed State Fair Lady Roadrunners got their postseason off to a solid start on March 2 by defeating Crowder College Lady Riders 95-77 in a Region 16 quarterfinal matchup.
The two teams engaged in a back-and-forth battle in the first half. Crowder was able to get the ball inside and to knock down timely three-point shots to keep the game close. State Fair took the halftime lead 42-39 when freshman Ciara Leak knocked down a half-court shot just before the buzzer sounded.
"I was really glad that happened right before the first half ended because not only did it get our crowd into it, it gave our girls a little momentum," said Student Manager William Holtz.
State Fair made the necessary defensive adjustments at halftime. They used better ball pressure to take away Crowder’s scoring in the post. The Lady Roadrunners also did a much better job from the free-throw line knocking down 69 percent of their free throws.
State Fair (26-4) was led in scoring by Leak who registered her third triple-double of the season. She finished with 24 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, to go along with a pair of steals. Sophomore Brittany Young contributed 22 points, three assists and two rebounds. Freshman Tatianna Washington added 20 points and four rebounds.
The Lady Roadrunners advance to the semi final round of the Region 16 Tournament to take on Iowa Western Community College March 5 at Jason Gym on the Lincoln University campus in Jefferson City, Missouri. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
