The 10th ranked State Fair Lady Roadrunners made just enough plays down the stretch to secure a 62-58 Homecoming victory on Feb. 27 against Mineral Area Community College. State Fair grabbed a 22-16 lead with just over seven minutes to go in the first half.
Mineral Area came back in the second half to take a 44-43 lead with 13 minutes and 31 seconds to go in the game. State Fair again used a zone defense to change the tempo of the game, and the Lady Roadrunners finally took the lead they never relinquished.
MACC did cut the lead to 61-58 with 38.6 seconds to go in the game. However, the Lady Cardinals committed a costly turnover, and State Fair freshman Dahlia Booker knocked down one of two free throws to seal the win.
The Lady Roadrunners (25-4, 9-3 in Region 16) were led in scoring by freshman Tatianna Washington with 18 points, eight rebounds, four assists, four steals and one blocked shot.
"Tatianna Washington played very well tonight . . . She did a very good job down the stretch of making shots," said Student Manager William Holtz.
Sophomore Brittany Young contributed 16 points, five rebounds and three assists. Freshman Jaleisha Barrett added nine points and five rebounds.
State Fair will host Crowder College Lady Riders on March 2 in quarterfinal action of the Region 16 Tournament.
