L 80-71 |
The match up between the 10th-ranked State Fair Lady Roadrunners and the No. 1 ranked Jefferson College Lady Vikings lived up to its advanced billing. State Fair dropped a heartbreaking 80-71 decision on Feb. 24 on their home court.
State Fair trailed by seven points at halftime after converting only three out of 10 opportunities at the free-throw line. In the second half, the Lady Vikings attempted to deliver the knockout punch early in the second half when they extended their lead by 14.
However, the Lady Roadrunners fought back to cut the deficit to one point on several occasions, but they could not pull any closer.
"Jefferson had us down by 14, but the team chipped away to close the gap,” said Student Manager William Holtz. “I can't say enough about the effort Jaleisha Barrett gave us on the boards along with Hattie Harris."
State Fair (24-4, 8-3 in Region 16) was led in scoring by Brittany Young with 20 points. She also added two rebounds and two assists. Harris contributed 16 points, eight rebounds and one assist. Dahlia Booker pitched in with 11 points, six rebounds and two assists. Ciara Leak had a solid all around game with 11 points, eight assists, three steals and two rebounds.
State Fair will return to game action on Saturday, Feb. 27, against Mineral Area College for their final regular season, which is also SFCC’s Homecoming.
