The eighth ranked State Fair Lady Roadrunners saw their six-game winning streak end on Feb. 20 when they dropped a 65-51 decision to the Moberly Lady Greyhounds.
“I thought we came out a little timid . . . we had chances,” Assistant Coach Kevin Bucher commented. “At the very beginning we missed a lot of easy shots; you could just tell they were rushing shots . . . We just didn't play as well as we are capable of playing."
State Fair (24-3, 8-2 in Region 16) was led in scoring by freshman Dahlia Booker with 12 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Ciara Leak contributed 11 points.
The Lady Roadrunners will return to home game action Feb. 24 when they will face their biggest challenge of the year, the No. 1 ranked Jefferson College Lady Vikings.
"Jefferson’s team is big and athletic. They shoot threes and have everything needed to be No. 1 in the country,” Bucher stated. “We're going to have to do a much better job of playing defense and cutting down on their dribble penetration. We must do a better job rebounding . . . It will be an exciting game for the mere fact that we’re playing the No. 1 women’s two-year college basketball team in the country. Jefferson has this ranking because they've been very consistent the last three years and have built their program to be the best in the country.”
