The 13th ranked State Fair Lady Roadrunners picked up yet another key road win on Jan. 30 against the Mineral Area College Lady Cardinals, 73-63. State Fair (20-2, 5-1 in Region 16) used their depth and quickness to wear down MAC.
"I thought our speed played a big part in the win,” said Assistant Coach Bucher. “We’re able to run people in and out. That's been our saving grace all year. Our speed has really hurt some teams and also having good depth to wear opposing teams down."
The Lady Roadrunners took a 37-32 lead into halftime, and around the 10-minute mark of the second half, they controlled the game and made the plays necessary to secure the victory.
"We did a better job of taking care of the basketball,” said Bucher. “Once we got the lead, we actually ran more time off the shot clock and passed the ball around bit more to get wide-open shots."
Freshman Ciara Leak led four Lady Roadrunners in double figures with 21 points. Sophomore Brittany Young contributed 14 points. Freshmen Jaleisha Barrett and Arriana Walker added 13 points each. Barrett grabbed a team-leading 11 rebounds to record a double-double. Leak and Walker added five assists and three steals a piece.
State Fair will return to game action Feb. 6 when they travel to Poplar Bluff, Missouri, to take on Three Rivers Community College.
