W 69-62 |
The 12th nationally ranked State Fair Lady Roadrunners found themselves in another battle Jan. 20 when they went up against the Lady Greyhounds from Moberly Area Community College. Freshman Dahlia Booker’s steal from a missed free throw rebound and two baskets was the spark needed to lead the Lady Roadrunners to a come-from-behind 69-62 victory.
"Booker did a great job of hitting her free throws and attacking the boards late in the game for us," said Team Manager William Holtz.
State Fair (18-1, 3-0 in Region 16) took a 33-29 lead into halftime. Sophomore Brittany Young got the Lady Roadrunners off to a fast start scoring 10 of her team-high 25 points in the first half. She also added two rebounds and two assists.
Moberly used the full court trapping defense to spur a 12-0 run midway through the second half. However, State Fair was able to regroup and set up the fantastic finish.
Booker contributed 16 points, eight rebounds and two assists. Freshman Tatianna Washington added nine points, four rebounds and three assists. Freshman Ciara Leak pitched in with six points, six rebounds and a team-leading 10 assists.
The Lady Roadrunners will travel to Hillsboro, Missouri, Jan. 23 to take on third ranked Jefferson College Lady Vikings with the lead in Region 16 on the line.
