The 16th ranked State Fair Lady Roadrunners (13-1) traveled to Fayette, Missouri, to take on the Central Methodist University junior varsity on Dec. 12. State Fair closed out the first semester in style with a 75-53 victory. They opened the game with a 10-0 run and never looked back.
"We got off to a good start right out of the gate,” said Assistant Coach Kevin Bucher. “Our defensive pressure and intensity was there."
Sophomore Brittany Young and freshman Tatianna Washington led the offensive attack with 17 points each. Young also registered a team-leading six assists and five steals. Washington dished out four assists.
Freshman Jaleisha Barrett recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Dahlia Booker pulled down a team-high 19 rebounds and also contributed four assists and three steals. Sophomore Juliua Fraser added six rebounds. Freshmen Maci Wisdom added five assists, and Ciara Leak grabbed two steals
The Lady Roadrunners will take a break for finals this week, and will return to game action on Dec. 21 against St. Louis Community College Meramec. Tip-off is scheduled for
"Finals are the most important thing, “ said Bucher. “There will be some days where we have everybody at practice. There may be a couple days where we miss some people because of finals . . . We just need to make sure that when we do have everyone, that it's good quality time and we continue to work on the things that we need to work on."
