The 18th ranked NJCAA Division I State Fair Lady Roadrunners (11-1) defeated Rend Lake 70-68 for the second time in a week on Dec. 4 at the Three Rivers Classic in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Sophomore guard Brittany Young secured the victory by hitting a shot with five seconds left on the game clock.

“We wanted to make sure we got a good shot . . . Brittany loves the opportunity to take the last shot. She hit a very good shot," said Assistant Coach Kevin Bucher.

State Fair was led in scoring by the freshmen duo Dahlia Booker and Ciara Leak with 14 points each. Booker also contributed eight rebounds and Leak collected four steals. Young pitched in with 11 points. Freshman Jaleisha Barrett recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

One aspect of the game Bucher wants to see the team improve is to stay out of foul trouble.

“Ever since Thanksgiving, we have had a tendency to pick up a lot of fouls and the other team gets to shoot a lot of free throws. Rend Lake hit all those free throw," said Bucher.
