The 17th nationally ranked SFCC Lady Roadrunners saw a 14-point halftime lead evaporate on the way to suffering their first loss of the season. Technical Career Institutes from New York City defeated State Fair 60-58 in the second round of the Moberly Classic on Nov. 28.
"We had a lot of turnovers, which is inconsistent with what we've done the last several games . . . we didn't rebound well. We didn't play defense well . . . we were 8-20 from the free-throw line. If you look at the whole game, we didn't come out to play, and we didn’t finish the game right," said Assistant Coach Kevin Bucher.
State Fair (9-1) was led in scoring by sophomore Brittany Young with 14 points. Freshman Maci Wisdom contributed 13 points, six assists and three steals Freshman Jaleisha Barrett grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds; she also scored six points.
“We have to get back to having structured time as far as games and practices. Whenever you have a break, you miss that structure. We need to work on offense and defense,” said Bucher.
State Fair will return home on Dec. 1 to take on the Missouri Valley College Lady Vikings junior varsity. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
