The SFCC 23rd nationally ranked Lady Roadrunners traveled to Harrison, Arkansas, Nov. 23 for a battle against the sixth nationally ranked North Arkansas College Lady Pioneers and came away with a 96-58 victory.
The Lady Roadrunners opened the game on a 10-0 run and never looked back.
"The girls really came out focused. Our defense was very good. We shot the ball really well. We were very pleased with the win,” said Assistant Coach Kevin Bucher.
SFCC (8-0) used their athleticism to get a lot of easy baskets.
"North Arkansas wanted to stay in their one-three-one zone. We kept passing to the open person and eventually we hit the shots. That was one key for us that we get those outside shots," said Bucher.
Sophomore BrittanyYoung led the team in scoring with 18 points and two assists. Freshman Ciara Leak contributed 11 points. Jaleisha Barrett added 11 points and a team-leading nine rebounds. Freshmen Maci Wisdom pitched in with 11 points, six steals and five assists, and Arriana Walker just missed a triple-double with 10 points, a team-leading 16 assists and nine steals.
The Lady Roadrunners travel to Moberly Nov. 27-28 to participate in the Moberly Classic. State Fair will take on Illinois’ Rend Lake College and Technical Career Institutes from New York.
"Rend Lake is a guard oriented team. They will shoot the three-point-shot . . . we have played a lot of teams like that . . . we have done a pretty good job of working through the picks and helping on defense. We haven't seen TCI yet," said Bucher.
