The 23rd nationally ranked State Fair Lady Roadrunners kept the momentum going for the second round of the SFCC Classic with an 88-65 victory over Kaskaskia College on Nov. 21. State Fair jumped out to a 25-7 lead and never looked back.
Coach Pannier felt that the good start was important to the outcome of game, especially after the hard-fought game with nationally ranked Lincoln Trails the night before. He was also pleased with the performance from freshman Hattie Harris, who came off the bench to lead the team in scoring with 16 points.
"Balance and depth have been the keys to our 7-0 start," said Head Coach Darren Pannier.
Brittany Young contributed 14 points and two rebounds. Freshmen Dahlia Booker added 10 points and six rebounds, and Jaleisha Barrett grabbed a team-leading 14 rebounds. She also scored nine points. Freshmen Tatianna Washington pitched in with nine points, five rebounds and four assists, and Ciara Leak had a solid all-around game with nine points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals. Freshmen Arriana Walker dished out a team-leading 11 assists and also had six steals while Monica Pyrtle added seven points. The Lady Roadrunners shot 50% from beyond the three-point line.
State Fair will travel to North Arkansas College on Nov. 23 for 5:30 p.m. game with another nationally ranked team.
"They are going to shoot the three-point shot like Kaskaskia did in the second half. They like to penetrate and kick. We have to do a good job of finding their shooters and closing out on them," said Pannier.
