Opponent: McDonald's Classic (SFCC vs. S.W. IL)
W 57-38 |
In the second round of the McDonald’s Classic on Nov. 8, the State Fair Community College Lady Roadrunners started slow taking a 29-19 lead into halftime against Southwestern Illinois College. The Lady Blue Storm used a zone defense to slow down the Lady Roadrunner offensive attack.
"They did do a good job with the zone. In the first half, it did slow us down," said Head Coach Darren Pannier.
The second half, however, was a different story. Sophomore guard Brittany Young began to assert herself on the offensive end.
According to Pannier, Young can break down a zone, but she has to know what her roll is and get other people involved. He said that once they have more time to work together and figure out what everyone can do, the team will improve.
The Lady Roadrunners continued to press the advantage in the second half and posted a 57-38 victory against the Lady Blue Storm. The win improved the Lady Roadrunners record to 3-0 on the season
Young led the team in scoring with 18 points. Freshman Hattie Harris and Lindsey Stanley tied for the team lead in rebounds with eight. Freshman Arriana Walker led the team in steals with six.
SFCC will travel to Centralia, Illinois Nov 14 to play in the Kaskaskia College Classic.
"It will be a good road test for us," said Pannier.
