The State Fair Community College Lady Roadrunners (2-0) had a battle with Southwestern Christian College Lady Rams in the home opener of the McDonald’s Classic on Nov. 6 that almost ended in defeat.
At the half, State Fair trailed 31-23 but turned up their defensive pressure to erase that deficit in the opening minutes of the second half. However, SCC’s players refused to back off. With one minute 48 seconds left to go in game, SFCC was down by seven points. Then the Lady Roadrunners went on an eight to zero run against the SCC Lady Rams to take a one point lead, finally winning the game 53-50.
"Maci Wisdom is a competitor," said Head Coach Darren Pannier. Wisdom had several key plays in the final minutes including four-for-four from the free throw line. She finished the game with seven points, four assists and two steals.
Sophomore Brittany Young led the Lady Roadrunners in scoring with 12 points. She also grabbed four steals. Freshman Dahlia Booker contributed 10 points, nine rebounds and three steals. Freshman Arrianna Walker added eight points and three steals. Sophomore Keyra Morris grabbed a team-leading 12 rebounds and contributed six points.
State Fair will take on Southwestern Illinois College on Saturday, Nov. 7 to close out their portion of the McDonald's Classic.
