Opponent: Belleville Juco Jamboree
Location: Belleville, IL
The State Fair Community College Lady Roadrunners hit the floor for the second time this preseason when they traveled to Illinois for the BellevilleJuco Jamboree, on Oct. 18. The Ladies went 1-2 at the event. They defeated John A. Logan College 47-27 and then dropped a pair of close games to Lincoln Trail College 36-33 and Vincennes University 38-35.
"These were good games for us to experience. You want to play good teams to get better… We are young, everyday we need to come to practice, learn from our mistakes and hopefully get better," said Assistant Coach Kevin Bucher. "We really came out well at the beginning of the ballgame against John A. Logan and kept building as the game went," said Bucher.
SFCC was led by freshman Tatianna Washington with 11 points; Dahlia Booker contributed seven points.
Against Lincoln Trail, Booker led State Fair with 12 points. Freshman Maci Wisdom added seven points and three rebounds. Freshman Jaleisha Barrett had a solid all around game with six points, four rebounds and two steals.
Against Vincennes, Booker, again, led the team in scoring with eight points. Freshman Hattie Harris added six. Freshman Arriana Walker contributed five points, four rebounds, and three steals.
Defense and communication have been two areas of emphasis in practice this week. Bucher feels that the Lady Roadrunners have a lot to work on, but with good attitudes and enthusiasm, hopefully they can see some improvement.
SFCC will travel to the CMU Jamboree on Oct. 24. The Lady Roadrunners will see some NAIA varsity competition at this event.
"For us, it's going to be a learning experience. We will have to use some of our quickness and athleticism to hopefully offset some of the experience that they have," said Bucher.
