SFCC to honor 2011-2012 artist in residence Linda Hoover May 2

SEDALIA—Linda Hoover, State Fair Community College’s featured community artist for the 2011-2012 academic year, will be honored with a public reception from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 2 in the Proctor Library on the Sedalia campus.
Hoover will do caricatures for the public during the reception. The cost is $15 for a 15-minute sitting for one person or $25 for a 30-minute sitting for a couple. To schedule a sitting, call the library at (660) 530-5842.
An exhibition of Hoover’s watercolors, portraits and caricatures will be featured until the end of the semester.
A representative of the Daum Museum of Contemporary Art also will give a Visual Thinking Strategies presentation at 11 a.m.
Hoover received a Master’s Degree in Education with an emphasis in Art from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She has received commissions for numerous portraits, paintings, drawings, and murals.
She teaches art for Pettis County R-V school district in Houstonia.
In 2008 and 2009 she served as superintendent of the Fine Arts Department at the Missouri State Fair. This August she will be the artist in residence at the fair and will paint a mural on the outside wall of the Fine Arts building. She will display a sketch of the mural at the reception.
She recently has taken mission trips to Guangdong Province in China, Moscow and the country of Georgia, where she often connects with the people by drawing them and giving them the pictures while sharing the gospel along with the other members of the mission teams.
Last May she traveled to Israel, where the Christian Broadcasting Network arranged for her to do portraits of Holocaust survivors. For more information, visit Hoover’s Web site at

The Proctor Library is located in the Yeater Learning Center on the Sedalia campus. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.
