SFCC April 20-21 quilt 'Show and Shop' to feature famous quilt

SEDALIA—State Fair Community College will hold a quilt “Show and Shop” April 20-21 at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on the Sedalia campus.

Hours will be 3-8 p.m. April 20 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 21. Admission is free. Concessions will be available.

A special display will feature the “Tree of Life” quilt used in the Omaha Community Playhouse 2009 production of “Quilters.” The quilt, 12 feet 9 inches square, is worth $10,000 and was designed by Peg Pennell of Ashland, Neb. It took three months to design and make the quilt, with 12 women helping.

A dozen vendors will sell a wide variety of quilting products, including material, books, patterns, thread, and more. Six other vendors will be selling Miche, Scentsy, Tastefully Simple, Pampered Chef, Thirty-One and Tupperware.

There is no entry fee for quilts, but a maximum of four entries per person is allowed. Only one quilt per category per individual may be entered for judging. People’s choice ribbons will be awarded.

The show will feature 10 quilt categories: Bed quilts (hand quilted, machine quilted, appliqué, and embroidery); holiday (quilts, table runners, wall hangings); baby quilts (hand quilted and machine quilted); lap quilts; wall hangings; miniatures; apparel and accessories; home décor; art quilt; and “My First Quilt” for new quilters only.

The show is co-sponsored by SFCC, Patches Place Quilt Shop and D&T Quilt Shop.
