SFCC nursing students to compete at national SkillsUSA

A team of four State Fair Community College nursing students won first place in the post-secondary health knowledge bowl competition April 5 at the Missouri SkillsUSA state championship at Linn State Technical College in Linn, Mo. They will compete in the same category June 21-27 at the national SkillsUSA Leadership & Skills Conference in Kansas City. The students are in the Year One second-semester cohort group in SFCC’s Associate Degree nursing program. Celebrating their state victory are, from left, Martha Deitrick, Andrea Moore, Emma Duncan, and Shanda Jarman. Not pictured is Olena Kolyesnykova, a Year Two semester one student, who will compete in practical nursing at nationals. This is the second year SFCC nursing students have competed at SkillsUSA and their first time to qualify for national competition. SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization serving teachers, high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations.
