LAKE of the OZARKS—State Fair Community College-Lake of the Ozarks will more than double its size and classroom space this fall when it moves upstairs from its location on the lower level of Stone Crest Mall, 3797 Osage Beach Parkway, Osage Beach.

The move to street level will provide twice as many classrooms, a completely new science classroom, a larger computer lab, and a commons area for students, said Director John McMahon.

“We’re at capacity now; we had 561 students enrolled for spring 2012 semester,” said McMahon. “This move will allow us to serve twice as many students in a wonderful new space. We plan to be ready by fall.”

The 24,000-square-foot upper-level space will feature 15 classrooms, compared to seven in the 11,000-square-foot lower-level location. The new space also will provide more administrative room, additional parking and better visibility, said McMahon.

Special activities are planned at the location later this summer to showcase the new space, said McMahon.

Fall classes begin Aug. 20. About 140 day and evening classes will be offered at SFCC-Lake of the Ozarks. Most are 16-week classes, although some fast-track five- or eight-week classes also are offered.

Nine online “minimester” classes begin Aug. 1 and end Aug. 14 before the regular fall semester starts. “Minimester” classes offer students a chance to take full-term classes in a short amount of time. Deadline to enroll is July 25.

Students enrolled at SFCC-Lake of the Ozarks can earn an Associate of Arts transfer degree and an Associate of Arts in Teaching degree as well as Associate of Applied Science degrees in business management (in four specialties: marketing/retail, office management, business management, and real estate), criminal justice, general career studies, construction technology, marine technology, and paraprofessional educator, and a Professional Certificate in real estate appraisal. Certified Nurse Assistant classes also are offered.

Through an agreement with SFCC, Central Methodist University provides bachelor’s degree programs at SFCC-Lake of the Ozarks and online. Students can earn four-year degrees in accounting, management, business, child development, criminal justice, early childhood education, elementary education, psychology, nursing, special education, middle school education, and sociology. CMU will move upstairs to the new space with SFCC.

SFCC-Lake of the Ozarks also offers evening classes at Eldon High School, Second and Pine streets, and at the Lake West Christian Academy, 1717 N. State, Highway 5, Sunrise Beach.

The college offers online classes and complete online degree programs—an Associate of Arts degree, a business management degree, or a one-year certificate in real estate appraisal.
