SFCC-Lake of the Ozarks now enrolling for summer and fall classes

LAKE of the OZARKS
—New students may now enroll in summer and fall classes at State Fair Community College-Lake of the Ozarks (LOZ) in the lower level of Stone Crest Mall, 3797 Osage Beach Parkway, Unit C2, Osage Beach.

The summer session begins June 4 and ends July 30. A total of 60 day and evening classes will be offered, ranging from accounting to wellness.

Fall classes begin Aug. 20. About 140 day and evening classes will be offered. Most are 16-week classes, although some fast-track five- or eight-week classes also are offered.

SFCC-Lake of the Ozarks offers evening classes at Eldon High School, Second and Pine streets, and at the Lake West Christian Academy, 1717 N. State, Highway 5, Sunrise Beach. Students may choose from classes in art, biological sciences, basic skills, computer applications, criminal justice, economics, English, history, literature, math, and speech and theatre.

Students enrolled at SFCC-Lake of the Ozarks can earn an Associate of Arts transfer degree and an Associate of Arts in Teaching degree as well as Associate of Applied Science degrees in business management (in four specialties: marketing/retail, office management, business management, and real estate), criminal justice, general career studies, construction technology, marine technology, and paraprofessional educator, as well as Professional Certificates in real estate appraisal.

They also can earn Bachelor of Arts or Science degrees in business, child development, criminal justice, early childhood education, elementary education, nursing, psychology, and sociology through a partnership with Central Methodist University (CMU).

Nine online “minimester” classes begin Aug. 1 and end Aug. 14 before the regular fall semester starts. “Minimester” classes offer students a chance to take full-term classes in a short amount of time. Deadline to enroll is July 25.

SFCC offers 81 degrees, 14 Professional Certificates and 20 Skills Certificates. Starting this fall, SFCC is offering an Associate of Science degree in Chemistry and an Associate of Applied Science degree in Metals Technology with emphasis in welding technology and emphasis in machine tool technology.

The college also is offering new Professional Certificates and Skills Certificates in career paths such as:
  • Automotive—transmissions, drivelines and axles; chassis; electrical/electronics, heating and air conditioning; and advanced driveability
  • Computer aided drafting, mechanical drafting and architectural drafting
  • Industrial technology—control technology, electrical installations, electro-mechanical technology, electronics, principles of technology, safety and management
  • Metals technology—CNC operation, machinist helper, manufacturing technology, machine tool technology, welding technology, and structural welding
Professional Certificates are designed to be completed in one year; Skills Certificates require completing 9 to 18 credit hours. Skills certificates not only allow students to enter the workforce quickly but also can lead to Professional Certificates or Associate of Applied Science degrees. 

The college offers more than 260 online classes, plus complete degree programs online—an Associate of Arts degree, a business management degree, or a one-year certificate in real estate appraisal.
