Truck Driving - Class A CDL

The Program

This program is designed to train new truck drivers in the rules of the road, keeping logs, understanding regulations, and how to drive. Upon completion, participants will have earned their basic Class A CDL to include general, air brakes, and combinations. The training is a four-week program that incorporates approximately 200 hours of classroom time and driving time. As you increase your driving abilities, you will experience increasing amounts of traffic and different types of road conditions. Both low-use and high-use docks will be used for practice.

Students will need to have their CDL permit and pass drug and health screenings before starting the program.

The Cost - Tuition and Fees - $3,000 plus $102.50 for Licensure

Get Permit

$32.50

Due prior to starting class. The balance of the $3,000 is used for instructional costs, which include costs associated with truck operation, books, and instruction.
 Finishing Up

Take Driving Test

Included

You will be provided with a tractor/trailer rig in which to take your test. Your test date will be scheduled as soon as you pass your physical and drug test.

Get License
(cost varies depending on state where applying)

$70 (Missouri)

After you pass the driving test, you will need to submit the required paperwork to obtain your license. You will be provided with the paperwork and instructions as part of the program. However, a $70 fee needs to be submitted with the paperwork. Since there are several options for submitting, the charge is not included in the course fees.

The Job

This program was designed with the cooperation of local trucking companies to meet their increasing demands for qualified drivers. However, the CDL is good for any company, which you may choose to apply. Realize that the long-haul trucking firms have insurance requirements that may include restrictions on age and amount of driving experience that must also be met for employment. Some of the very large firms are self-insured and have fewer restrictions. However, the local trucking firms are working together to help program graduates obtain necessary driving experience and/or reach the acceptable age (21-21 depending on company). SFCC will work with you to gain appropriate employment.
