Academic Leadership Scholarships
The Academic Leadership Scholarships require you to complete an SFCC scholarship application
and write a 150 word essay answering the question; “Why should I receive this scholarship?” The essay should focus on your academic honors, civic involvement, leadership activities and positions held in academic and civic organizations.
In this essay describe examples of your leadership experience and share how you have significantly influenced others, helped resolve disputes, or contributed to group efforts over time. Consider responsibilities you have taken for initiatives taken in or out of school. You may also describe any of your special interests and how you have developed knowledge in these areas. Give examples of your creativity: the ability to see alternatives; take diverse perspectives; come up with many, varied, or original ideas; or willingness to try new things. Additionally, you may explain what you have done to make your community a better place to live. You may give examples of specific projects in which you have been involved over time. Furthermore, you may articulate the goals you have established for yourself and your efforts to accomplish these. You may give at least one specific example that demonstrates your work ethic and diligence.
The President’s Academic Excellence Scholarship
This scholarship is available to current year high school graduates in the SFCC service area who show exceptional promise. To be eligible, students must achieve a composite score of 26 or higher on the ACT test, must be ranked in the upper 15% of their high school graduating class, have at least a 3.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale), and be ranked in the top ten by one of the three Academic Leadership Scholarship selection committees. The scholarship must be used the academic year following graduation from high school and is for 1 year. To receive the second semester award you must have obtained at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA (on a 4 point scale). This scholarship will pay all tuition and fees up to 19 credit hours each semester.
This scholarship is available to full and part-time students who excelled in the areas of academics, community service, and leadership activities. To apply for this scholarship the student must be ranked in the top 25% of their high school class, scored at least a 21 on the ACT (or Compass or Asset Test equivalent score), and maintained a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or higher. If you current SFCC student or are transferring to SFCC you must have at least a 3.0 college GPA.
