Position Overview

The fulltime HIT Instructor will have instructional responsibilities in all areas of health information management, clinical classification systems, and other classes included in the curriculum. This may include course development, as well as, coordination and management of clinical locations where appropriate. The position will also require recruitment, student advisement, committee work, and related departmental and college responsibilities. Perform other duties as assigned.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Responsible for delivering online coursework using our Angel platform in 8-week semester lengths to include instructing classes within the HIT program, requiring 15 credit hours, as per State Fair full-time requirements. • Ensure that required documentation for each student is received prior to start of classes and coordinate student registration and access to mySTAR. Advise and enroll students in the HIT program. • Work with Program Coordinator to achieve and maintain accreditation for the HIT program. • Works with marketing office to develop and distribute new marketing materials for the HIT Program. • Contributes to the overall success of SFCC Online by performing duties in a manner consistent with the mission, goals, and stated values of the department and by performing all other essential duties as assigned. • The preceding duties have been provided as examples of the essential types of work performed by positions within this job classification. Management reserves the right to add, modify, change or rescind work assignments as needed.

Required Qualifications

Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems to include word processing, managing files and records, maintaining spreadsheets and databases. Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools and Angel software. Customer service techniques. Ability to interact with a broad range of people both on and off campus in a positive manner. Operate independently on own initiative. Work is often self-directed to meet requirements, deadlines and timelines. Show evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills. Possess an understanding of the range of needs community college students represent. Possess a commitment to the philosophy and mission of the community college. Willingness to participate in SFCC Online instructor training classes or completion of Introduction to Teaching Online and Teaching with LMS Software as appropriate, and to improve instruction through professional development including pedagogy and technology training. Candidate must be able to demonstrate professional knowledge effectively in an online classroom. Current experience in the health care field a plus. Certification as CCA required, or show progress towards obtaining a CCA. Preference will be given for additional college courses and/or degrees. Physical Tasks and Environmental Conditions–Work involves active work in and out of office setting, including exposure to a variety of exposure to various conditions, chemicals, and materials associated with health care facilities. There is frequent sitting, with walking, standing and stooping occasionally required. There is an occasional need to lift objects (up to 10 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday. Additional Experience to be considered

Strong preference will be given for operating in an online environment and experience in an educational environment with direct contact with students and faculty.


Position will remain open until filled. Immediate application is encouraged. Pending board approval, employment will begin in August 2012 through May 2013. Contracts renewable annually. Summer teaching opportunities may be available.
